Annual gumbo cookoff slated March 1 in downtown Leesville

LEESVILLE -- The annual "Dickey" Berry Main Street Gumbo Cookoff will be held Saturday, March 1 in downtown Leesville.

The Leesville Main Street has announced rules for competitors. Rules, along with the entry application, can be found HERE.

The entry fee is $30. The deadline to enter is Feb. 26.

Individuals, teams, organizations and businesses can compete. There will be three categories: Chicken and pork; seafood and wild game.

Cooking will start around 6:30 a.m. on March 1, and judging will take place at around 11:30 a.m. After judging, tickets will be sold to the public for tasting.

The Leesville Mardi Gras Parade also takes place on March 1 and will begin at 2 p.m.
