Funeral service set for James "Jamey" Stephens

VERNON PARISH -- The funeral service for James "Jamey" Stephens, 31, of Rosepine, is set at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9 at East Leesville Baptist Church, according to the Stephens family.


Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8 at East Leesville Baptist.

Stephens is survived by two young daughters, and a host of family and friends.


Stephens' remains were found early last month. He had been reported missing in March. Two people have been arrested and booked on second-degree murder in his death.

Funeral services for James "Jamey" Stephens will be held Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, at 10 a.m. at East Leesville Baptist Church, 266 Alexandria Hwy., Leesville.
Rev. Wayne Chance, Rev. Terry Ward and Rev. Dan Booth will be officiating.
Burial will follow the service at Mt. Bethel Cemetery, under the direction of Jeane's Funeral Service.
Visitation will be Friday, Aug. 8, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at East Leesville Baptist Church.
Jamey, 31, was born to Richard Stephens and Tammy Harvey on Jan. 23, 1983, in Lafayette. He was a graduate of Leesville High School and had been employed in the Leesville/DeRidder area. Jamey was of the Christian faith. He loved to laugh and spend time with his family, especially his two daughters. He was an avid outdoorsman and also enjoyed going to the races. Superman was his "hero."
Left to cherish his memory are: Father, Ricky, and wife, Gwen, of Leesville; mother, Tammie, and husband, Sam, of DeRidder;
Daughters: Destiny and Morgan, of Rosepine;
Sister: Shaylee Stephens, of Leesville;
Brothers: Fred Stephens and Clint Harvey, both of Leesville; and
Step-brother: Samuel Harvey, of DeRidder.
Also, he had a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
