Woman files suit against parish over alleged bat bite

VERNON PARISH -- A former inmate at the Vernon Parish Jail has filed suit against the parish over an alleged bat bite.
Lois Worfel filed the lawsuit in January in 30th Judicial District Court. It also names Vernon Parish Sheriff Sam Craft.
The suit was discussed Monday in executive session at a meeting of the Vernon Parish Police Jury. No vote was taken.
Worfel alleges that the bat bite happened in January 2013 while she was in custody at the jail and that she suffered injuries to her face, "leading to disfigurement, permanent injury, pain and suffering."
Worfel, in the suit, also alleges that she suffers emotional stress and nightmares as a result of the alleged bite.
A court date has not been set in the case.
Worfel is being represented in court by Lake Charles attorney James B. Doyle.
A lawsuit presents the grievance of one party against others. It does not present both sides of the issue in question.
