Taste of West Central: Mama Nena's brings something sweet to downtown DeRidder

DERIDDER -- An old storefront in downtown DeRidder is now a colorful canvas for creative confections.
Pink and blue set the background for Danish pastries, scones, croissants and cupcakes, all baked from scratch at Mama Nena's Bakery.
Daniela Parsley is "Mama Nena."
"My sister could not say 'Daniela.' She used to call me 'Nena.' When I decided to start making cakes, I became a mom at the same time. I am Hispanic, so that's the 'mama,' so 'Mama Nena,' " she explained.

'Pie Guy' has pie down pat

LEESVILLE -- On the edge of Leesville, there's a baker on wheels that has pies down pat.
Roger Emmons, a Minnesota native, has been baking for years and when he retired from the Army, he made pastries his full-time, honest passion.
"I had been baking pies for years, but I didn't really tell anybody that, you know, being in the infantry," he said, chuckling. More HERE.
