Lawsuits filed in 2012 wreck involving work release inmates

VERNON PARISH -- Several men who were Vernon work release inmates involved in a December 2012 wreck while being transported have filed lawsuits in 30th Judicial District Court.

According to the lawsuits, filed separately, some of the men claim that they were injured; others allege that they were denied adequate medical attention.

Some of the defendants named in the lawsuits include the Department of Public Safety and Corrections, the two guards who were in the transport van, the Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office and the City of DeRidder.

The lawsuits say that the inmates were part of the "DeRidder Road Crew."

The wreck happened at the intersection of La. 468 and La. 184.

Court dates in the matter have not been set.

A lawsuit presents the grievance of one party against others. It does not present both sides of the issue in question.
