Rebel SHS to present "History of Folk Music and Art"

MARTHAVILLE -- Guests are invited to Rebel SHS on Saturday, Jan. 11 to learn more about the history of Folk Music and Art in Louisiana.

At 10 a.m. Jan. 11, Dr. Shane Rasmussen, director of the Louisiana Folklife Center at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, will offer a PowerPoint presentation on “Folk Music and Art in Louisiana” followed by a discussion and a question and answer period. The afternoon session at 3 p.m. will include an illustrated jam session presented by Steve Shutz of the Blanchard Jammers and other guest musicians.

Rebel SHS is located approximately 25 miles west of Natchitoches on La. Hwy. 1221 N. The site is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and features the Louisiana Country Music Museum, an amphitheatre, pavilion and picnic area. Admission is $4 for adults (ages 13 to 61).
