Sulphur man accused of child pornography possession

CALCASIEU PARISH --A Sulphur man is accused of child pornography possession.

According to Louisiana State Police, Troop D, 52-year-old James Allen Newman was arrested Wednesday following an investigation by the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations.

Newman is accused of downloading and distribution of child pornography.

"Troopers determined Newman was the person responsible for downloading and distributing child pornography. During questioning, Newman admitted to downloading child pornography. As part of the investigation, detectives seized computers for forensic analysis," states a news release.

Newman was booked on pornography involving juveniles and was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center.  

If convicted, he faces up to a $50,000 fine and from five to twenty years in prison without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence.
