Ragley man booked on failure to register as sex offender

CALCASIEU PARISH -- A Ragley man was booked Friday on failure to register as a sex offender.
According to a news release from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office, at 10:30 a.m. Friday, deputies conducted a stop on a car at the intersection of S. Beglis Pkwy and Maplewood Drive, in Sulphur, for a traffic violation. Authorities said 28-year-old Jonathan E. Diaz was the driver.
"When deputies spoke with the driver, they discovered Diaz, a registered sex offender from Colorado County, Texas, who was convicted of prohibited sexual acts in October 2003, has been living in Calcasieu Parish since May 2013 without notifying the proper authorities within three days, as required by law for all registered sex offenders," the release states.
Authorities said Diaz did not have any form of identification that identified him as a sex offender, required by law for all registered sex offenders.
He was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center on failure to register as a sex offender and suspended driver’s license.
Bond was set at $10,000.
