Several win big at annual gumbo cookoff

LEESVILLE -- The 3rd annual "Dicky Berry Gumbo Cookoff" was held Saturday in downtown Leesville.
Cooks from across the area -- and beyond -- participated.
There were three categories: Chicken and sausage, seafood and wild game.
First place winners in each category got $1,000, and second place winners received $100.
Eric Gonzalez and the "Krazy Kajun Cooking Team," from Baton Rouge, took top honors in the chicken and sausage category.
Phillip Landry and the 5L Ranch took first in the seafood category, and Pat Anderson took the top prize for his wild game gumbo.
A total of 16 competed, and around 300 people attended.
The event was held in conjunction with Leesville Mardi Gras events.
Entertainment was provided by the Old Man Band and Dulack Smack.
Those attending got to sample all of the gumbo offerings for $7.
