"Star Party" set March 29 at Hodges Gardens State Park

FROM STAFF REPORTS
MANY -- The public is invited to join amateur astronomers from the Baton Rouge Astronomical Society to star gaze on Saturday, March 29 at the 5th Annual Hodges Gardens Star Party.

Next week, amateurs from around the state and beyond will be at Hodges Gardens State Park, with their sights set on the night sky.

The society is made up of people who enjoy meeting up, camping and searching out the night sky for stars, galaxies and planets.

Members say they enjoy traveling to Hodges Gardens each year because the Baton Rouge lights wash stars out.

Telescopes used range in size and ability.

On public viewing night, which is after sunset, some rules will apply to ensure optimal viewing. For instance, only dim red lights may be used on the observing field after dark. No vehicles will be allowed to move on the field and those attending are also asked not to play loud music.

Admission to the park for the public viewing event will be $2 per person. Last year, around 225 people attended.
