Inmates sentenced in 2011 jail death

VERNON PARISH -- Two Leesville men have been sentenced in a 2011 death at the Vernon Parish Jail.
Inmate Kelly Lindsey was found dead in a common area of one of the jail cells in December 2011.
Inmates Octavious Riggins and Jonathon Hopkins, both of Leesville, were charged with manslaughter in the case. They were initially booked on one count each of second-degree murder.
Riggins will serve 10 years, and Hopkins will serve 25 years, according to Vernon Parish District Attorney Asa Skinner. Both will get credit for time served.
Authorities said Lindsey died of head and neck injuries.
