City of Leesville announces name change for golf course

The following is a news release from the City of Leesville:

LEESVILLE -- Is it the Country Club? The Municipal Golf Course Meeting Room? Just what do you call the room attached to the city golf course? For that matter, what do you call the golf course?
Interesting questions, and some that have plagued many for years. But now, at last, there are answers.
"'The Lodge at the Pines" has just the feel I'm looking for," said Robin Winstead, manager of the Leesville golf course in reference to the room that many call the "Country Club," despite the fact that it's not privately owned and does not require membership.
Winstead and others, including golf course secretary Tara Shunkwiler, have spent considerable time over the past few months renovating the Lodge to give it a homier, more comfortable feel.
"While it's 100 percent better, I think it still can be improved upon," Winstead said, pointing out the newly exposed fire place that actually works and the recently installed wood mantel and wood trim, as well as the freshly painted walls.
People are certainly taking notice of all the hard work. Since January, four weddings have taken place at the Lodge, and four more are booked. Anacoco High School conducted its prom at the Lodge and has already booked the building again for next year.
It's the perfect venue for weddings, dances, luncheons, baby showers, family reunions, banquets and awards presentations.
Even better, the Lodge is a steal when it comes to an all-day affair, renting out for just $300 a day, which includes tables, chairs, a full kitchen with an ice machine and an occupancy of 150 people sitting at tables.
A grand reopening of the building planned for early summer will provide an opportunity for people to become reacquainted with all the Lodge has to offer.
Signage to reflect the name change, as well as other improvements at the Lodge, are still in the planning stages, but, in the meantime, the city's golf course, also re-christened "The Pines," with a newly hired greenskeeper and groundskeeper, has moved into its summer schedule.
Closed on Thursdays, the Pines is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday through Sunday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Several tournaments have already been scheduled for the upcoming months.
