OAKDALE -- A man is accused of stabbing another in Oakdale.
According to authorities, 61-year-old Ralph E. Johnson is accused in the stabbing death of 21-year-old Michael J. Kirklin.
Authorities say Kirklin attempted to defend his grandmother who had been attacked and slammed to the ground by Johnson.
According to Oakdale Police Chief Scotty LaBorde, officers were dispatched to an apartment Monday after receiving a call about a man with a knife threatening to kill someone.
Kirklin was stabbed in the left side of his chest and transported to a local hospital by private vehicle before officers arrived on scene.
However, by the time officers arrived at the hospital, Kirklin had died.
Johnson was taken into custody without incident and booked on second-degree murder, aggravated assault and obstruction of justice. He is scheduled to go before a judge on Thursday and currently remains in jail.
