Cleco makes donation to DeRidder school

BY RYAN KEETON
DERIDDER -- Cleco LLC has made a $5,000 donation to a DeRidder School.
Ronald Smith, governmental liaison for CLECO, made the announcement at Monday's DeRidder City Council meeting.
The company is donating $5,000 to the First Street School in DeRidder to help renovate a classroom there. The historic building, which the city bought a year ago, is home to the Beauregard Education Link. It hosts college classes there every night through Upper Iowa University.
Just a couple of months ago, CLECO donated money to the City of Leesville's Main Street Program in a similar fashion.
"Cleco has served the city of DeRidder for quite sometime and we want to give back the communities in which we serve," Smith said.
Smith also expressed a personal sense about what he was doing.
"I feel great about it. I think it's a noble thing for this company to do to make sure that we're giving back and not just taking from the community," he said.
