LEESVILLE -- The Leesville Mayor's Women's Commission and the Keep Leesville Beautiful Committee have announced the winners of the 2014 Spring Trash Bash, their semi-annual cleanup week.
The winners of the City of Leesville Mayor's Women's Commission (LMWC) Spring Trash Bash were Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, first place winner; Polk Memorial Episcopal Church, second place; and Troop 2123 Girl Scouts, third place.
Each civic group received a cash prize and a certificate.
Landon Jordan, an 8-year-old second grader, won the litter bug contest with his sculpture of a litter bug made from recycled trash.
The Mayor's Women's Commission and the Keep Leesville Beautiful Committee expressed their appreciation to businesses and neighboring towns for donating supplies and/or services for the door prizes given out at the Spring Trash Bash.
The clean up, which began Tuesday, April 7 and concluded with the Spring Trash Bash on Saturday, April 12, encouraged residents to clean their properties.
The city's Public Works Department helped in this effort by going around town collecting disposed items.
