Retired Fort Polk fire chief plans May 3 'sunset devotion' for firefighters

VERNON PARISH -- Firefighters and members of the public are invited to a sunset devotion at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, May 3 at the Vernon Parish Fairgrounds in Leesville.
The event, in its second year, is organized by former Fort Polk fire chief, Michael Kuk, who retired in 2012.
There will be an historical overview of firefighting from Roman to modern times. Prayer, a pledge and music will round out the event, Kuk said.
Firefighters will be in dress or duty uniforms, and equipment will be on display.
"We expect a good turnout," Kuk said. "It will be an evening of prayer and fellowship. Prayer that we'll have will be uplifting to the firefighters."
For more information, call Kuk at 318-379-8466.
