Bids opened for Leesville, Pickering track projects

LEESVILLE -- Bids were received and taken under advisement Thursday for track refurbishment projects at Leesville High School and Pickering High School.

Finance Director Tim Ward told the Vernon Parish School Board that all of the bids will be eyed in coming days to determine if they meet the school system's specifications before action is taken on their approval.

Ward said four bids were submitted for Leesville High School's eight-lane track. Bid totals ranged from $189,900 to $264,000. The lowest bid came from Hellas Construction out of Austin, Texas.

Two bids were submitted for the Pickering High School project, which involves a nine-lane track. The lowest bid totaled $121,500 from United Sports System out of Wichita, Kansas. The highest bid -- totaling $218,200 -- came from Geo Surfaces, of Baton Rouge.

In other business on Thursday, board members approved the advertisement of two principal positions and one administrative assistant post.

The school system will advertise for principals at Leesville Junior High School and Pickering Elementary School. The administrative assistant job is open at Hicks High School.

Superintendent James Williams said officials will be looking to fill the principal positions as soon as possible. The first day of school in Vernon Parish is Aug. 12.
