LEESVILLE -- District 3 Leesville City Councilman Danny Dowd was elected Monday to serve as president pro-tempore of the Leesville City Council.

District 2 councilwoman, Willie Mae Kennedy, made the motion to appoint Dowd. The vote was then unanimous.

Dowd said he appreciated the panel's confidence and he'll attempt to serve the seat well.

According to the city's code of ordinances, "During a temporary absence from the City or temporary inability to perform the duties of the office of the Mayor, the vacancy shall be filled by the President Pro-tempore as Acting Mayor."
