Leesville track bids tabled; Pickering bids rejected for reworking

BY ELONA WESTON
LEESVILLE -- The Vernon Parish School Board on Tuesday decided to table bids for the track refurbishment project at Leesville High School to further evaluate specifications.

Board members also decided to reject bids for the track refurbishment project at Pickering High School in order to retool specifications to factor in more work.

Regarding the Leesville project, Finance Director Tim Ward said action would likely be taken when the board meets again in August. He said in coming days, school system officials will meet with Hellas Construction, out of Austin, Texas, which submitted the lowest bid of $189,900 last week.

"We don't want to rush it," Ward said, adding that taking the extra time won't hinder the project timeline.

Ward said on the Pickering track, more work is needed than what the original bid called for. No word on when that will be revisited and re-bid.

The Leesville track is an eight-lane track, and the Pickering track is nine lanes.
