VPSO advises residents of scam

The following is a news release from the Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office:

VERNON PARISH -- The Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office wants to alert residents of a recently discovered scam.

According to Sheriff Sam Craft, efforts to pay citations through an online website have resulted in residents being scammed.

"We are not sure who is responsible for this website, but we suspect it is just like the many others that have surfaced such as the publisher's clearing house," Craft said.

According to Craft, if you need to pay for a citation through the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office, you can go to www.vernonparishtix.com or call (800) 701-8560.

These are the only means used by the Sheriff’s Office to pay citations. You can also use this website to pay for taxes and occupational licenses, said Craft.

According to Craft, the following are numbers used by the other law enforcement agencies throughout the parish to pay citations:

1. City Of Leesville – (800) 701-8560 or www.leesvilletix.com
2. Town of Rosepine- (800) 701-8560 or www.rosepinepayments.com
3. Town of Anacoco – (800) 701-8560 or www.anacocopay.com

The towns of New Llano and Hornbeck do not have websites, therefore you will need to contact them at the number printed on the citation.

Anyone with questions regarding citations is encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Office traffic division at (337) 238-7222.
