"Pushups for Charity" raises $6,970 for troops

LEESVILLE -- "Pushups for Charity" raised $6,970 for troops, according to officials with the Greater Vernon Parish Chamber of Commerce.

The event, held Saturday at the Leesville High School Stadium, was sponsored by the Chamber and the national, non-profit organization, Boot Campaign.

Officials said around 200 soldiers and area residents attended.

Those interested can still donate at Checks are also being accepted at the Chamber Office on U.S. 171 North in Leesville.

Officials thanked volunteers, including Walgreens. The store donated 600 bottles of water and PowerAde. Omni Financial also donated water. Both businesses also had teams.

DeRidder musician David Locklear provided music for the event.

The Leesville Rotary Club and Kiwanis also assisted in the effort.
