SC man booked in Vernon following alleged texts, phone calls and visit to juvenile

VERNON PARISH -- A South Carolina man has been booked into the Vernon Parish Jail on contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

According to Vernon Parish Sheriff Sam Craft, 48-year-old Frankie Maldonado, of Reeseville, South Carolina, is accused of communicating with a 15-year-old Vernon Parish juvenile.

Craft said the two were speaking over the telephone and texting one another. Craft said Maldonado made arrangements with the juvenile to pick her up from home in the middle of the night, however, VPSO deputies were able to intercept Maldonado after picking the girl up.

"A 48-year-old man that is willing to travel half way across the country to spend time with a 15-year-old girl is a serious concern for us," Craft said.

Craft said the investigation continues and local authorities have sought assistance from the Louisiana State Police and the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Office High-Tech Crime Unit.

Maldonado remains in the Vernon Parish Jail.

Craft said more charges are expected.
