Murphy Oil zoning request OKd by Leesville Council

LEESVILLE -- The Leesville City Council on Monday voted unanimously to adopt an ordinance outlining the rezoning of a land parcel to make way for the new fuel station to be located at Wal-Mart in Leesville.

The measure had been green-lighted by the Leesville Planning and Zoning Commission.
A public hearing was held Monday on the ordinance. No one spoke for or against it.

City officials, earlier this year, announced that a Murphy Oil Corporation fuel station was coming to the city.

Leesville City Administrator Courtney Christian told the West Central News Center that the land where the station is being developed was on a parcel that was zoned A-6 Single Family. She said in order to operate the business, the lot had to be rezoned for the intended use.

Earlier this year, city officials said engineering for the site had been completed, and the city had passed the proposal through its administrative review.

Murphy Oil operates stations across the country, including one in DeRidder.
