Leesville council members recognized by LMA

LEESVILLE -- Leesville City Council members Alice Guess and Danny Dowd were recently honored by the Louisiana Municipal Association (LMA) during the organization's annual convention in Baton Rouge.

Guess received a six-star gold service pin for her 24 years of service, or six terms, in her seat.

Dowd received a four-star silver service pin for his 16 years, or four terms, in office. Former councilman Joe McKee also received a four-star silver service pin.

Late councilman Mike Elliott was recognized with the six-star gold service pin. Elliott, who passed away in June, was slated to begin his sixth term on the panel.

According to the LMA's website, the organization is, "a unified voice for Louisiana’s municipal governments." Its mission is to "advocate, educate, and empower local governments to efficiently and effectively serve the citizens of Louisiana."

Both Guess and Dowd said they were "honored" to receive the pins. They made the comments during Monday's Leesville City Council meeting.
