Leesville Council agrees on property mutual aid agreements with Main Street group

LEESVILLE -- The Leesville City Council on Monday favored resolutions to enter into a mutual aid agreement with the Friends of Leesville Main Street for the management and maintenance of the Polk Theatre as well as a pocket park, which is located at the corner of 1st Street and Mechanic Street.

Sam Kincade, Leesville Main Street director, said the city owns the properties but the organization will handle their operations.

"Which means that the Friends of Leesville Main Street will take care of all maintenance and all bills associated with these projects and in return, the Friends of Leesville Main Street will retain any proceeds for these entities," Kincade said.

Kincade said the pocket park will be a trail head for an historic walking trail down Third Street. He said the trail will end at the Pioneer Park beside the Museum of West Louisiana.

Also on Monday, the council:

-- Appointed Alice Eddington as finance director.
-- Tabled an executive session regarding "pending litigation for the City of Leesville," according to the agenda.
-- The council recognized Bre'Zhanna A. Eddington, pool cashier, as employee of the month.
-- Approved a resolution outlining a resolution to adopt a records retention policy for the city.
